Our Purpose

As a private, not-for-profit, child placing agency, our mission, for every family, is to foster love, comfort, and stability, so that every life gains fulfillment.

Our History

Since 1981, we have provided families for children in need, as well as for adults with developmental disabilities. Based in Morganton, North Carolina, we have operated as a private, not-for-profit corporation licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services to provide specialized foster care. In 1990, we became Lifegains, Inc., and have continued to provide the same comprehensive services that have earned us a positive reputation throughout the state.

In 1992, in response to increasing requests to expand our services in North Carolina, Lifegains established a regional program in Greenville. We created a third program in Asheville in 1995, and a fourth in Burlington in 2001. While administrative responsibilities are handled in Morganton, each of the four satellite offices can offer a broad spectrum of foster care services. Each of our regional programs is designed to serve 40-48
individuals placed with families licensed by Lifegains, in homes located within a 50-mile radius of the office.
